Lenard Yen – Artist Statement
As a painter I process my feelings and experiences through the exploration of balance between the shifting forces of motion and stillness, foreground and background, focus and dispersion. I’m attracted to the shifting interplay of colors that imparts a semblance of cohesion in a fast moving world of expansion and contraction. I find through experimentation and discovery a welcome release from other aspects of control and definition. I’d like my paintings to instill a meditative pause from the busyness of our lives. Moments are the simultaneity of multiple levels of thought and sensation and as we begin to unravel our impressions, we look more deeply into the way a painting appears, what it is saying, and how it affects us. Perhaps we can let go and step into a space where we are suspended in the wonder of the unfolding present.
