Artist Statement<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI long to capture the striking beauty of Mother Nature and the exquisite character of her creatures,\u201d says Karen Fox. \u201cMy hope is that my paintings engage viewers emotionally; that way, perhaps they\u2019ll experience the joy and wonder I feel for my subject while painting.\u201d<br \/>\nKaren is known for her colorful, textured, light-filled canvases that she creates mostly with a palette knife. \u201cWhen I paint,\u201d she says, \u201cI frequently become so involved I lose all sense of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karen moved from Colorado to Vashon Island with her family twenty years ago. She started painting in 1997 when she enrolled in a \u201cplein air\u201d (translation: paint outside) landscape class from the Art Students League of Denver. There she studied with acclaimed artists, Jay Moore, Doug Dawson and Kim English. She\u2019s also an Advertising Design graduate of the Colorado Institute of Art. <\/p>\n<p>Karen has exhibited her paintings through galleries and art festivals since 1998. On Vashon she has had shows at the former Blue Heron and Silverwood Galleries, and has participated in over 15 Art Studio Tours. Her work has found homes with private collectors across the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Karen took a break from painting for the last several years due to \u201clife getting in the way.\u201d No longer working full time, she has rekindled her inspiration and motivation. Now she intends to make up for lost
