Kristen Reitz-Green – Artist Statement
I came to painting late. First there was a life in classical music. There was Juilliard and touring the country performing with Broadway shows, years of ballet performances as a member of the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra, movie recordings and countless other performances. Then I went on to teaching French horn at several universities but this was only the beginning of my life in the arts. After life changes and bringing two children into the world, I found a new love. The paint gave me a new life, new freedom to express myself, new ways of seeing the world. I paint food and dogs and things that make my heart sing with joy and I have started to dip my toe ever so gently into other mediums.
Art seeps into your soul and stays only to fill up corners you never knew you had with purple or green and sometimes orange. Now that I am here, I expect to stay indefinitely.
