Artist Statement

Lynn has been an artist and illustrator for over 30 years, working on projects as varied as product advertising campaigns, gift ware, book jackets and, her favorite, children’s books. Usually working in watercolor and colored pencil, she strives to create art that evokes wonder and invites one to think. Lynn has always been fascinated by Medieval Illuminated manuscripts, so fanciful borders filled with strange and wonderful foliage and creatures feature prominently in her work.

Lynn has expanded into wool felt appliqués to depict animals and plants, and, most recently, into linocut prints. Linocuts will be featured in the borders of Lynn’s soon to be published children’s book (Hathaway House Books) “The Little Red Hen.” There are seven books so far, and Lynn would love to share them with you! Lynn has exhibited work in the Southwest and Washington, and is an active member of Vashon Watercolor Society, FiberNet, and VIVA!

Lynn McClain’s work will be displayed at Outstanding in its Field Gallery, stop #32, on the 2022 VIVA Spring Art Studio Tour, May 7-8 & 14-15, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 am – 5 pm.  For more information on the free, self-guided tour and an interactive map, click here.
