Stephanie Marotta – Artist Statement
Stephanie Marotta, owner of S.Marotta Pottery, began her journey in ceramics while growing up in the heart of Bucks County, PA. Her ceramics education began when Stephanie was a student in high school and continued into her college years. Pottery was an adjunct to her education in Computer Science, and Stephanie continued to pursue ceramics as a hobbyist during her various careers in industry and education.
Fueled by her passion for the craft and her relocation to art-friendly Vashon Island in the Fall of 2016, Stephanie has had the opportunity to delve into her craft in earnest. She is currently exploring pottery using various stoneware clay bodies. All pieces are fired to Cone 5/6 making them extremely durable. All pieces are microwave and dishwasher safe.
As Stephanie refines her process, her focus is to create the finished look of a reduction-fired piece using an electric kiln. Her goal is to create “Unique Pottery to Enjoy Every Day” – Functional, wheel-thrown pottery that is affordable and comfortable to use on a daily basis.
In the town of Vashon, S.Marotta Pottery can be enjoyed at two locations. Earthen Bistro offers farm-to-table brunch, lunch and dinners from seasonal ingredients. Pollard Coffee – Vashon’s new artisan coffee shop – offers fine coffee drinks made from beans that are roasted in-house. Custom pottery is available for resale at both Pollard Coffee and Vashon Island Baking Company. Vashon Island Baking Company offers house made pastries and island-roasted coffee.
Custom orders and commission projects are currently being accepted.
Stephanie Marotta’s pottery is on the 2022 VIVA Holiday Art Studio Tour, stop #2, Dec 3-4 & 7-11, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 am – 4 pm. For more information on the free, self-guided tour and an interactive map, click here.
