10311 SW 116th Pl
My insatiable curiosity has always been a driving force in my life and a dominant influence in my art and design. Discovering new mediums and new ways of working with them artistically is a never ending pursuit. I’ve enjoyed delving into a wide variety of visual arts.
My most recent endeavor is assemblage. I enjoy the complexity of attaching found objects to wood and metal, forming unusual patterns and statements.
I continue to create mixed media sculpture using copper, Apoxie Sculpt clay, wood and other miscellaneous wires, beads, driftwood and found objects to create pieces that explore emotion and movement. I create textures and patinas with copper as a way of adding to the visual image of the emotion.
Before retiring, I worked as an Environmental Graphic Designer and Advertising Art Director after graduating from ETSU with a double major in Industrial Design and Commercial Art and later did graduate work in ceramics and welded metal sculpture. My design experience has given me the visual and technical foundation to pursue many artistic interests. I never know what I might be trying next!s

35. Lapano Pottery
17721 Beall Rd SW
Jessi Lapano, Wheel-thrown ceramics and alternative firing
Lapano Pottery features a variety of wheel thrown and cast ceramic works, created by potter Jessi Lapano. She has a passion for saggar fired ceramics, which utilizes organic and combustible materials in the clay finishing process. She uses a mix of seaweeds, shells, and minerals found here on Vashon to color her work. The combustion of these elements produce beautiful reactions that become integral to the surface of the clay and create unique, earthy results with each firing. You can often find her foraging along the shoreline of KVI, searching for her favorite kelps to fire her pottery.

Sara Barry
My art work is a reflection of myself. Many artists, of course, say this and it is true enough but as an elder it is especially significant. I have always drawn; on napkins and bits of paper here and there, as a woman who was raising children might. I designed their clothes and sewed them up in our basement as they slept. A quiet and humble satisfaction. My parents' experience of the depression made an indelible impression and early on felt I ought to be able to make what I need. They were both artists but my mother’s love of natural beauty was a true gift.
Some years ago, I was introduced to pottery and my hands fell in love. I had given them a new medium to explore and the whole of me was simply delighted. My long diary poured out as I shaped and drew women, animals, emotions; stories! My simple illustrations had a new canvas.
I made cups and bowls, figures, vases and busts of people I knew; lives I’ve lived. I painted my wee life on all these vessels as a way to express all myself; my love and devotions, my outrage and frustration. All of it! Because why not? I am an elder and I just want to make what I want.

31. Pam Ingalls @Dig Deep
19028 Vashon Hwy SW
Pam Ingalls, oil paintings
I feel very lucky to have a good excuse to notice my life with paint. Even the simplest moment has its own atmosphere – its own story. When I meet a person, walk into a room, or even pick up an orange, I get a certain feeling. There's an essence that belongs to just that moment. I get to be with that feeling while I attempt to translate it into the poetry of paint.
This year I had the opportunity to paint and show my work in New York City at the famous Italian restaurant Lattanzi's Cucina Italiana. (Read more about Lattanzi’s in this New York Times’ article: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/dining/snl-restaurant.html. I painted scenes from this iconic space, then exhibited the paintings inside the restaurant this past summer. A few of these pieces will be featured at Dig Deep during the Holiday Art Tour.
I've also been experimenting with figure painting, as well as scenes from my travels this year to Italy and Japan – one of my favorite sources of inspiration.
There are amazing things to notice everywhere. After witnessing wonders while traveling, I see beauty at home with new eyes. Painting gives me a great excuse to stop time for a little while and explore the splendor around me. I hope my work inspires people to look twice at the beauty that surrounds them.

A Fusion of Art, Science & Nature
Step inside Studio 29 and immerse yourself in two extraordinary worlds—one revealed through the microscope, the other shaped by skilled hands from stone, leather, and fossil.
Lee Hendrickson unveils the hidden beauty of the microscopic realm through his Photography of Crystals. Using substances like wine, chocolate, and caffeine, he grows crystals through evaporation, then captures their intricate patterns and vibrant colors with a high-resolution digital microscope. The result is a breathtaking fusion of scientific curiosity and artistic vision—an unseen natural world, made visible. Live demonstrations offer visitors a rare glimpse into this pioneering creative process.
Carol Lux and Michael Conley, the award-winning artists behind Made in Paradise, transform stone, leather, and fossilized ivory into timeless works of art. Their stone lamps, vases, and obsidian wind chimes bring nature’s elegance indoors with calming, meditative designs. They will also showcase hand-cut and braided leather paired with fossilized ivory for necklaces and key rings, along with ceremonial and healing rattles that reflect their deep connection to craft and tradition.

The Center's Gallery features four very diverse artists:
Deborah Taylor: "My printmaking centers on etching and screenprinting, each so different. Etching into copper requires exacting concentration and varied processes to get the image right, whereas screenprinting pushes acrylic inks through screens to build up an image in layers. My subjects are the mountains, water, flowers, and creatures that beautify Vashon."
Eddy Radar: "My present focus on landscape includes the many small parts I forage and collect here on my farm. Using traditional as well as proprietary skills for mold-making, casting and slumping, I am able to create contemporary sculptural objects in several styles of glass."
Brooke Gassiot: Brooke Gassiot will showcase her figurative and botanical paintings exploring the cycles of life, alongside her Ferry Kiss Studio collection of calendars, greeting cards, and stickers - each inspired by the wild, natural beauty of the island.
Pearl Millet Studio: Kedar Mankad and Maya Breitburg-Smith create functional and wearable pottery in their home studio in Dockton. They use a variety of techniques, including raku and saggar firings, to create work inspired by nature, texture, and color.

20. Glass Heart Sandblasted Glass
15631 Westside Hwy SW
For Silvija Paza, it feels like she’s been sandblasting glass forever – etching designs on to windows, bowls, vases and more – but it’s only been since 1985!
Frogs, herons and bugs are her some of her favorite designs. She also loves using real ferns, leaves, cedar and red huckleberry branches collected from the woods around her home on Vashon Island, gluing them onto the glass and sandblasting over them. This technique creates her “Forest Shadows” pieces with delicate silhouettes of the leaves on a frosted background.
The Holiday Studio Tour is an invitation to see where and how an artist creates their work! It adds a depth of understanding and appreciation of the piece. Silvija’s studio is divided in two – the “clean side” where she displays her glass and the “dirty side” where she does the sandblasting. Sandblasting is a labor-intensive, noisy and dirty industrial sort of process that surprisingly creates clear, delicate glass pieces that are both beautiful and useful. Here’s a chance to see the process and the finished pieces!
Silvija’s Glass Heart Studio is right next to the Old Colvos Store with the gas pump out front, which is her home and a King County historic landmark on the Westside Highway. Her studio is open by appointment year-round. Text/call 206 567-4228 or email glassheartvashon@gmail.com if you’d like to stop by.
You can also find her work at the Swiftwater Gallery in lovely downtown Vashon.

19. Ravensong Farm Studio
12202 SW 153rd St.
Lynanne Raven - Printmaker
I love the creative process and the challenge of researching and trying something new.
I began my artistic career as a fabric designer graduating with a degree in Textile Design from the University of Washington.
As my life evolved so did my art. I've journeyed into woodworking, creating mirrors influenced by 19th -century Arts & Crafts tiles. This is often a single design repeated to create a beautiful and functional piece of art.
I am now enjoying the exploration of drypoint printing by which an image is incised in a plate with a sharp pointed needle.
Whether it's the petals of a flower, the feathers of a bird or the wings of a honeybee, this medium gives me the opportunity to see and appreciate the amazing detail resplendent in nature.

18. Hearthwitchery
14628 Bethel Ln SW
Googlemap
Rachelle Mee-Chapman. Mixed Media
Step inside Hearthwitchery, a creative studio where magic and craft come together in everyday, tangible forms. Rooted in the traditions of hearth and home, Hearthwitchery offers a glimpse into the blending of art, ritual, and intention through handmade spell jars, dressed candles, and intuitive collage works.
Each piece begins with a careful selection of herbs, stones, colors, and symbols, chosen not just for their beauty but for the energy they carry. The spell jars are small vessels of comfort, protection, and transformation, layered thoughtfully to hold meaning as well as aesthetic charm. The dressed candles are hand-anointed and adorned with herbs, oils, and natural embellishments, turning an ordinary flame into a luminous act of intention. Collages, meanwhile, weave together found imagery, textures, and text into talismanic works of art that invite reflection and inspire connection.
Visitors touring the cottage studio will see not only the finished creations but the shelves of dried botanicals, goblets full of crystals, beeswax tapers, and stacks of ephemera that form the foundation of each piece. The workspace embodies a quiet kind of alchemy—part apothecary, part artist’s den—where everyday materials are transformed into tools of magic and meaning.
Hearthwitchery is about slowing down, honoring the power of small rituals, and finding beauty in the details. Whether you leave with a spell jar, a candle, or simply a spark of inspiration, the hope is the same: that you carry a bit of warmth, magic, and intention back into your own hearth and home.

15. Vashon Center for the Arts
19600 Vashon Hwy SW
The Miniature Show - 70+ artists with art in a variety of mediums. Eric Heffelfinger Fine Jewelry - gold, silver, precious and semi-precious stones.
Vashon Center for the Arts proudly presents a celebration of artistry both grand and small — the 19th Annual Miniature Show and Eric Heffelfinger’s Holiday Collection. Step into a world where craftsmanship and imagination meet.
"The Miniature Show", a beloved Vashon holiday tradition, challenges artists to create works no larger than 36 square inches (or six inches in any direction for 3D pieces). Within these tiny boundaries lies a vast universe of creativity — from intricate paintings and delicate sculptures to finely wrought mixed-media works. Each piece invites viewers to pause, look closer, and discover how color, form, and emotion can be distilled into the smallest of spaces. The result is a joyful and intimate celebration of artistic mastery, offering collectors the perfect opportunity to find one-of-a-kind, affordable treasures this holiday season.
Complementing this exhibition is Eric Heffelfinger’s Holiday Collection, an exquisite showcase of handcrafted jewelry by the master goldsmith and longtime Vashon resident. Known for his decades of artistry and as former co-owner of the Silverwood Gallery, Eric presents one of his most expansive collections to date — featuring earrings, cuff bracelets, pendants, and chains in gold and silver, often adorned with opals, pearls, and Kingman turquoise. Each piece embodies his signature sense of movement — “fluid rather than sharp-edged… water rather than rock.”
Together, these two exhibitions capture the heart of the season: celebrating imagination, beauty, and the enduring spirit of art on Vashon Island.

7. Wm Henri
23830 Vashon Highway
Working studio and gallery featuring contemporary leather sculptures and fine leather fashion accessories. Leather is my main medium - it tells me a story, and I bring it out.
My new studio is the old Burton Post Office, where I'm creating leather-based sculpture and assemblage, as well as other leather goods based on decades working in the medium. A passion for history and the cowboy period in the American West initially drew me to the techniques and aesthetics that are the foundation of my work. My commercial designs have been used in fashion, advertising, television and film; other creations are in private collections and museums. This new body of work is a true departure for me and a real joy...no boundaries and 35 years of technique I can run with. I'm having a blast with these sculptures. And they seem to appeal to the hearts and sense of humor of those who stop by to see them.

5. Vashon Island Hats
25947 Gold Beach Drive SW
Barbara Waterbury, Kathryn Perkins
Barbara DiPrete Waterbury and Kathryn Perkins first met on the Elementary School playground. Over the years, their passion for fibers, color and adventurous outerwear culminated in ‘Vashon Island Hats.’ Kathryn and Barbara both draw their inspiration from the beaches, forests and gardens of Vashon Island. They primarily source yarns that follow the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), or recycled, repurposed fibers, at times sourcing directly from the ranch/mill. Most recently they have begun dying wool using native plants foraged on the island, including lichen and nettles.
Especially of interest to both Kathryn and Barbara is the design aspect of creating; each bringing their own vision to the finished hats, headbands, gaiters, and cowls. Prices for items range $35-$95 USD.
We believe there is a hat for every head.

1. Dockton Art Studio
26309 97TH AVE SW
Barbara Benedetti Newton - pastel, oil, acrylic, gouache, handspun yarn
Welcome to Dockton Art Studio. Barbara Benedetti Newton has been a full-time artist since 1992. She returned to the island in 2022 and Dockton Art Studio was created within the “walking-distance loop” of many other Dockton community studios.
Landscape scenes, both real and imagined, are Barbara’s favorite subject for pastel which has been her primary medium for more than twenty years. She also works in oil, acrylic, and most recently, gouache. Her paintings express her love of color, mark making, and relationships between positive and negative shapes. She is known for fearless painting, a concept she shares online at Patreon.
This season, the focus is on affordable framed artworks – ready for gifting, as well as blank notecards to accompany a gift any time of year.
New this tour is handspun yarn from Barbara’s flock of wool-breed sheep raised at her previous island location, a farm at Center.
You’ll find Dockton Art Studio on 97th Ave SW, within walking distance of Dockton Marina on Maury Island. Look for the long brown wood rail fence with driveway entrance. Parking is near the studio.
