With a focus on visual arts, we will take an in-depth look at strategies for working with Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, and a few unexpected platforms where your future patrons may be hiding. Iskra Johnson is a fine artist and letterform designer. With over 30 years experience in her own design business, she brings practical marketing expertise to her coaching for creative entrepreneurs. In teaching her goal is to help creative businesses and individuals find their own authentic voice. Iskra is represented by SAM Gallery and Museo on Whidbey Island. Her work is in the collections of Virginia Mason, Kaiser, King County Portable Works, City of Seattle and private collections throughout the USA. What the workshop will cover: How do artists sell their work through social media? How can social media broaden your reach and expand your audience? How can you integrate social media with your studio life in a way that makes it more creative and challenging? How can you find your own voice in this crowded and distracting marketplace? And….. how do you keep it all from making you crazy? The class is suitable both for the social media novice and those who have already established themselves online. Teaching includes a combination of on-screen demonstrations, journal writing and discussion. The focus will be on strategy and principles of social media. Participants will get the most out of the class if they have an Instagram and Facebook account activated and accessible on their phone, (even if the account is private or nothing has yet been posted to it.) Please bring a notebook, and a smartphone if you use one. Laptops optional. Class maximum: 30 be sure to sign up early!

A Visual Artist's Guide To Entering Art Contests & Exhibitions  Saturday February 8th, noon-3PM The Land Trust, 10014 SW Bank Rd, Vashon Instructor: Michael Elenko Register HERE Benefits 2D visual artists including painting, printing, design, and photography; and 3D visual artists including sculpture, ceramics, fiber, glass, woodworks and other media. This class aims to help 2D and 3D visual artists understand how competitive art exhibitions and contests work, and how to use online resources to enter them. Both rewards and risks are examined in an even-handed way. Class learning objectives: •Understand factors that motivate people to enter art competitions •Be aware of prerequisites necessary to enter competitions •Recognize benefits and risks associated with participating in competitions •Navigate to websites that facilitate entry into many international, national, regional, and local art competitions •Be able to begin planning how your art should be prepped, packaged and shipped to the competition sponsor-either online or in real life Since 2017, Michael Elenko's photographs have been included in 14 international juried exhibitions across the US.

Submission Deadline: Vashon Sheepdog Art Shows

Art & Photography for Vashon Sheepdog Classic. Artists are invited to participate in TWO different art shows celebrating this eclectic Vashon Event. Take your inspiration from the dogs, sheep, Misty Isle Field or the fun! Art Show Specifications: Mixed Media Art & Photography Show at PSCCU Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union, 9928 SW Bank Rd. 20” x 24 maximum size, two pieces per artist, must be 2-D wall art. Design a Border Collie: Artists are invited to decorate a wood silhouette of “Shep,” our beloved Border Collie mascot of the Sheepdog Trials. VSDC provides the wood silhouette, you decorate the dog in the medium of your choice! Shep Art Show at our Community Credit Union OCCU 9710 SW Bank Rd. VSDC provides then collies: Size: 18.5”H x 33”L Medium: 1/4” OSB board, border collie silhouette painted black & white. Limited quantities available. Participate in one or both! Show Dates: Friday May 1 – June 26, 2020. Submission Deadline: April 20, 2020. A 25% commission of all artwork sold will be paid to VSDC. VSDC will collect all funds and pay artist less the 25% commission fee. People’s Choice Award: $250 per exhibit will be awarded for the “People’s Choice Winner.” Voting will be online on Facebook and in person at OCCU & PSCCU. VSDC will award the prize within 30 days of the close of show. Delivery of Items: Artists are responsible for transportation of art to the show and buyers. Art not sold during the show will be returned to the artist. OCCU, PSSCU and VSDC reserves the right to reject art that has content not acceptable to their missions.
