Alex Echevarria – Artist Statement
Alejandro “Alex” Echevarria is a nationally honored teacher of Asian studies and a lifelong martial artist. He brings these philosophies to others through his artistic expression. He is best known for his Jizo statues, which are Buddhist icons seen frequently in Asia. Jizo blesses and protects women, children, travelers, and those transitioning from this world to the next. Alex also sculpts animals, pets, and other figures taken from Asian folklore for his smaller work. Visit WabiSabi Studios for his whimsical garden sculptures, pavers and mosaic art.
Alex Echevarria’s works can be seen at the WabiSabi Studios which is stop #33 on the 2023 VIVA Holiday Art Studio Tour, Dec 2-3 & 9-10, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 am – 4 pm. For more information on the free, self-guided tour and an interactive map, click here.
