Christina Nichols – Artist Statement

I have always been interested in doing art. As a young girl I only drew horses. I taught high school art for a few years then began selling my own art at the Pike Place Market and various art fairs around the country.

After leaving the art fair world, I wanted to explore new printmaking processes; I took monoprint, etching, linocut, woodblock and collagraph classes at Quartermaster Press and Pratt Fine Art Institution.

My work is mostly inspired by nature. Lately I’ve been spending more time on collagraphs and discovering the surprising textures that appear from this layering process. The transformation that occurs during the printmaking process is always intriguing. Sometimes fantastic, other times disappointing but always interesting.

Christina’s works are at Quartermaster Press, stop #31, on the 2023 VIVA Spring Art Studio Tour, May 6-7 & 13-14, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 am – 5 pm.  For more information on the free, self-guided tour and an interactive map, click here.
