Lynanne Raven – Artist Statement
I love the creative process and the challenge of researching and trying something new.
I began my artistic career as a fabric designer graduating with a degree in Textile Design from the University of Washington. I designed and created handpainted fabric for designers and architects for home and commercial installations as a partner in Artex Designs.
As my life evolved so did my art. I journeyed into woodworking creating a collection of mirrors influenced by traditional Hawaiian quilts and 19th century Arts & Crafts tiles. This often was a single design repeated to create a beautiful and functional piece of art.
I am now enjoying the exploration of drypoint printing by which an image is incised in a plate with a sharp pointed needle.
Whether it’s the petals of a flower, the feathers of a bird or the wings of a honeybee, this medium gives me the opportunity to see and appreciate the amazing detail resplendent in nature.
